Excursion Outline

Welcome to Olympic National Peninsula!

3,600 square miles and home to eight American Indian tribes, the Olympic Peninsula is one of North America's most diverse ecosystems. Abundant with snow-fed rivers, whale inhabited waters, ancient trees, rugged peaks, flower filled meadows and bold sea stacks, its never ending beauty gives way for some of the most diverse subject matter a photographer could desire.

The Olympic Peninsula contains many of the last unexplored places in the contiguous United States. It remained largely unmapped until Arthur Dodwell and Theodore Rixon mapped most of its topography and timber resources between 1898 and 1900. Today, it is recognized as a Biosphere Reserve and World Heritage Site.

This workshop covers the beauty of capturing rain forests, mountain peak vistas, sea stacks and long exposures along with various flora and fauna. Spring is one of the most beautiful and lush times to capture this gorgeous part of the country. Emphasis will be on creating compelling compositions in complicated situations. You’ll walk away with a greater understanding of pattern, shape, depth and creating an image that leaves the viewer wanting to linger.

GROUP SIZE8 GUESTS

We believe group size is important for the ability to provide as much one-on-one instruction in the field as necessary. You'll never need to fight for the best spot. We make sure there's room for everyone!

These two photographers were a dream to learn from! Their knowledge about composition, lighting, gear, etc. is second to none. They can teach anyone from a total beginner to a more advanced photographer. I will definitely book another workshop with them and I can’t wait to see what else I can learn.

Itinerary

All locations and times visited will be determined by the conditions given. All elements are watched closely for the best photographic and learning experience.

Bonus Session

We've listened to our guests and have implemented something that has been hugely beneficial in our time together. Each workshop group attendee will receive an invite for 3 FREE MONTHS to our secure Photography Mentorship Program, Sharpen Your Shutter. Here, you will have access to a live and engaging, online post processing session, a short time after the workshop. This makes way for more shooting in the field and the option to learn from the comfort of your own home. It is recorded, giving you the ability to refer to the session as many times as you'd like for future reference. In addition, you'll find many courses, video tutorials, personal and monthly critiques, business coaching and so much more, surrounded and supported by a community of like-minded people!

Day One
It's day one and we can't wait to get started on our adventure with you! We’ll meet at the Pacific Inn at 4:00 pm. At that time we will get to know one another and discuss gear and the opportunities for our time together. We’ll then head to the beach to photograph the majestic sea stacks for sunset. By the end of this first evening session, you’ll be fully knowledgeable of our “in field workflow”. Our focus for day one is to make sure you're fully equipped for the entire week.

Day Two
There may be nothing more magical than photographing a rainforest. However capturing any forest can be a challenge to identify patterns, shapes and create order out of what can appear to be chaos. We’re going to work with you side by side to ensure that you create compositions that are ascetically pleasing. After lunch and a break, the afternoon will include photographing the seascapes and sunsets.

Day Three
There's no shortage of waterfalls in the Olympic National Parks. Waterfalls are a photographers delight, but when you tuck those waterfalls into a rainforest, magic happens. After lunch and a break, we will once again meet and focus on image critiquing and techniques, prior to dinner. Afterwards, we'll head to Hurricane Ridge and its grand 360˚, deer filled view which includes the Straight of Juan De Fuca, Victoria, Canada and many, many mountain peaks, including Mt Olympus. for an incredible way to wrap up day three.

Day Four
Our last morning together will find us photographing a couple of hidden waterfall gems that are a little less known to the public. Afterwards, we'll join for brunch at a local diner and recap on the lessons learned, trade contact information, and bid each other farewell.
